04.07.2020 Der am 23. November 1925 in New York City geborene US-amerikanische Komponist, Arrangeur und Bandleader Johnny Mandel (Bild) ist am 29. Juni 2020 in Ojai (Kalifornien) gestorben. Er schuf Jazzwerke, Filmmusik und Songs, die zu internationalen Standards wurden. Zudem spielte er Trompete und Posaune. Mandel gewann fünf Grammys und war 17mal nominiert. Sein Song "The Shadow of Your Smile" erhielt einen Oscar. Mandel arbeitete für unzählige Grössen wie Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Shirley Horn, Barbara Streisand, Tony Bennett, Woody Herman, Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Natalie Cole und Nat King Cole.
