Die legendäre US-Punkband Ramones ist ausgestorben. Der letzte Begründer ist tot. Tommy Ramone wurde 62 Jahre alt und litt an Krebs. Mit seinen Kollegen Joey, DeeDee und Johnny gründete er 1974 in New York die Ramones. Die vier nannten sich fortan mit «Familiennamen» Ramone. (...) Die Ramones landeten nie einen Top-40-Hit. Trotzdem gelten sie als Prototyp der Punkbands und inspirierten Punkgrössen wie Green Day und Nirvana.

And that's it; they're all gone. Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee and now Tommy. Even "the fifth Ramone", Arturo Vega, is no longer with us. It seems so unfair: not only did the Ramones never achieve the commercial rewards to match their staggering influence upon the trajectory of rock'n'roll, none of their principals was even granted a long life - at 62, Tommy was the Ramone who reached the greatest age.
