Singer/guitarist Wayne Static (born Wayne Richard Wells) of the industrial metal band STATIC-X has passed away at the age of 48. His death was confirmed by Wayne's publicists at FiXT Publicity.
There has been no official confirmation of the cause of death, but some of Static's music industry colleagues suggested in their reactions that drugs may have been involved.

Static war von 1994 bis 2013 Sänger und Gitarrist der erfolgreichen Alternative-Metal-Band Static-X ("This Is Not"). Nach einer längeren Pause löste Static die Band wegen eines Streits um die Namensrechte mit Ex-Bassist Tony Campos im vergangenen Jahr endgültig auf. Static machte solo weiter, im November hätte er zusammen mit der Industrial-Metal-Band Powerman 5000 auf Tournee gehen sollen.
Founded by Static in 1994, Static-X became one of the more well-known nu metal acts beginning with their platinum-selling 1999 debut LP Wisconsin Death Trip, which boasted the single "Push It." Known for his impossibly spiky hair and long chin beard, Static and his band would release five more studio albums over the next decade before Static-X went on hiatus in 2010, a year after they released their final album Cult of Static.
