22.07.2019 Der am 17. Dezember 1937 in New Orleans geborene US-amerikanische Sänger, Songwriter und Keyboardspieler Arthur Lanon "Art" Neville ist am 22. Juli 2019 gestorben. Er war u.a. Mitglied der Bands Neville Brothers (zusammen mit seinen Brüdern Aaron, Cyrill und Charles), The Hawketts, The Meters und The Funky Meters. Zweimal hat er einen Grammy gewonnen. Oft wurde er als "Vater des Funk" bezeichnet.

Art "Poppa Funk" Neville shaped the sound of New Orleans music for a half-century. The keyboardist and singer co-founded the Meters and the Neville Brothers, two of the most important bands to come from the city, and was the voice of the enduring Carnival season anthem "Mardi Gras Mambo."
