Was wird eigentlich aus denen, die ein gebrochenes Herz haben, fragte Jimmy Ruffin in seinem Song "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted?" Mit diesem Lied sang er sich in den Sechzigerjahren in die Herzen der Menschen. Zu seinen größten Erfolgen zählten zudem Songs wie "Gonna Give Her All the Love I've Got" und "I've Passed This Way Before".
Der kraftvolle Sänger stand stets im Schatten seines kleinen Bruders David, dem Teilzeit-Leadsänger der Temptations. Doch das war eine bewusste Entscheidung.

I first heard "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" in 1974, then on its second go round in the UK charts; I was 16, in thrall to Alex Harvey and Mott the Hoople. Over the past 40 years nothing has happened to alter my initial impression that this was one of the greatest records I had ever heard, and certainly the best that Motown had ever produced.
