23.12.2020 Die am 15. Mai 1942 in Crossett (Arkansas) geborene US-amerikanische Country-Sängerin und Songwriterin Kay Toinette Oslin ist am 21. Dezember 2020 in Nashville (Tennessee) nach einer Covid-19-Erkrankung gestorben. Die dreifache Grammy-Gewinnerin feierte ihre grössten Erfolge mit einer vom Pop beeinflussten Country-Musik. Sie platzierte von 1981 bis 2001 18 Singles in den Billboard-Country-Charts, vier davon auf Platz eins: "Do Ya'" (1987), "I'll Always Come Back" (1988), "Hold Me" (1989) und "Come Next Monday" (1990).* Besonders bekannt wurde auch hierzulande ihr Album "80's Ladies" mit dem gleichnamigen Top-10-Hit (1987).

She made music history by becoming the first middle-aged woman to rise to stardom in Nashville. Oslin was 45 years old when she scored a smash hit with the female anthem "80's Ladies" in 1987. The song made her the first female songwriter in history to win the CMA's Song of the Year prize. She was the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year in 1988.

"80's Ladies" won Oslin - the song's sole composer - the CMA Award for Song of the Year in 1988, making history in the process as the first woman to win the award. At that same ceremony, Oslin was also named Female Vocalist of the Year. She'd go on to win a Grammy Award for her performance of "80's Ladies," and earned two more Grammys for "Hold Me," which hit Number One in 1989.
