"Girl, you better get straight" - so lautete die entscheidende Zeile von "Kicks", dem ersten Song, mit dem Paul Revere & The Raiders 1966 in die Top Ten der US-Singlecharts vordrangen. "Ein toller Song", befand Jahre später der berühmte Musikkritiker Greil Marcus, "so gut, dass er seine eigene Message (es war ein Lied gegen Drogensucht) gleich wieder plattwalzte - das Stück lieferte genau das, wogegen es vorgeblich protestierte."
