18.11.2017 Der am 6. Januar 1953 in Glasgow (Schottland) geborene AC/DC-Mitbegründer, Rhythmusgitarrist und Songwriter Malcolm Young (Bild) ist am 18. November 2017 in Australien gestorben.

"It is with deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of Malcolm Young, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Malcolm had been suffering from Dementia for several years and passed away peacefully with his family by his bedside."

Renowned for his musical prowess Malcolm was a songwriter, guitarist, performer, producer and visionary who inspired many. From the outset, he knew what he wanted to achieve and, along with his younger brother, took to the world stage giving their all at every show. Nothing less would do for their fans.

As rhythm guitarist for the legendary rock band, Malcolm Young served as an indispensable foil to Angus Young's arena-stuffing riffs. After forming AC/DC in 1973, the Young brothers would be credited as co-writers on every song the band recorded from their 1975 debut High Voltage through 2014's Rock or Bust.

Im privaten wie im beruflichen hielt Malcolm Young nichts von unnötigem Show-Klimbim. AC/DC, die Band, als deren Chef er galt, machte nie Schlagzeilen mit verwüsteten Hotelzimmern, teuren Scheidungen oder Drogen-Exzessen. Es ging immer nur um Musik.

Mit seinem zwei Jahre jüngeren Bruder Angus gründete er 1973 die legendäre Hardrockband AC/DC in Sydney, Australien. Eigentlich war Malcolm am 6. Januar 1953 im schottischen Glasgow geboren worden, doch die Familie wanderte aus, als er zehn war. Der junge Malcolm bekam seine legendäre 1963 Gretsch Jet Firebird Gitarre geschenkt, und der Rest ist Geschichte. AC/DC («Highway to Hell») verkauften mehr als 200 Millionen Platten weltweit.
