20.05.2016 Der US-amerikanische Gitarrist, Mitbegründer und Namensgeber der New Yorker Hardcore-Punk- und später weltweit erfolgreichen Hip-Hop-Band Beastie Boys ist im Alter von 52 Jahren in Danvers (Massachusetts) an den Folgen von Demenz gestorben. Die Beastie Boys haben in 25 Jahren über 50 Millionen Tonträger verkauft.
Das Gründungsmitglied der Beastie Boys verstarb im Alter von 52 Jahren. Sein Vater bestätigt dessen Tod gegenüber dem US-Magazin «Rolling Stone». Berry habe an Demenz gelitten und sein Zustand habe sich in den letzten Monaten verschlechtert.

Berry is credited with coming up with the name Beastie Boys when they were teenagers. He attended the Walden School in New York with Mike Diamond. The group formed in July 1981, with Berry and Diamond joined by Adam Yauch and Kate Schellenbach. The first Beastie Boys shows took place at Berry's old loft at the corner of West 100th Street and Broadway in Manhattan's Upper West Side, where a small crowd gathered to hear the fledgling hardcore/punk band.
