06.10.2020 Der am 26. Januar 1955 in Amsterdam geborene niederländisch-US-amerikanische Rockmusiker, Songwriter und Sänger Eddie Van Halen (Bild) ist am 6. Oktober 2020 in Santa Monica (Kalifornien) gestorben. Er galt als einer der allerwichtigsten und stilprägenden Gitarristen der Rockmusik und verwandter Spielarten. Eddie war, wie sein Bruder Alex Van Halen, Gründer und Mitglied der Hard-Rock-Band Van Halen.

Eddie van Halen, bekend als medeoprichter en gitarist van de hardrockband Van Halen, is dinsdag op 65-jarige leeftijd overleden na een lang gevecht tegen keelkanker. Dat meldt TMZ.

Eddie van Halen eindigde in 2012 op de eerste plaats bij de top 100 van ‘grootste gitaristen ooit' van het tijdschrift Guitar World.

‘Je bent de beste vader die ik me had kunnen wensen', schrijft zijn zoon Wolfgang. ‘Mijn hart is gebroken en ik denk niet dat ik dit verlies ooit helemaal te boven zal komen.'

Eddie van Halen is geboren in Amsterdam maar toen hij zeven jaar oud was, verhuisde het gezin naar Pasadena in Californië. In de jaren zeventig richtte hij daar met zijn broer Alex een rockband op.
