Même si Jean-Jacques Perrey a connu un succès limité dans les années 1960, son influence a été considérable. En effet, il fait partie des musiciens qui, au cours des années 1960, ont fait sortir la musique électronique de la scène expérimentale, en utilisant les techniques de la musique concrète pour les appliquer à la musique pop.

Im Jahr 1964 machte er Bekanntschaft mit dem Komponisten Gershon Kingsley, welcher später mit dem Stück "Popcorn" weltbekannt wurde. In Zusammenarbeit produzierten sie zwei Alben "The In Sound From Way Out" und "Kaleidoscopic Vibrations". Letzteres enthielt das Lied Baroque Hoedown, das 1972 von Disney für "Main Street Electrical Parade" verwendet wurde. Im Jahr 1968 veröffentlichte er ein neues Album, "The Amazing New Electronic Pop Sound of Jean-Jacques Perrey", darauf "Moog Indigo" im Jahr 1970. Dann kehrte er nach Frankreich zurück und befasste sich besonders mit der Forschung in der therapeutischen Musik.

Perrey was an early pioneer of electronic music as one of the first musicians to use the Moog Synthesiser. He and Gershon Kingsley co-wrote the music and recorded it for a 1967 album called "Kaleidoscopic Vibrations: Electronic Pop Music From Way Out." It had a sound like an electronic harpsichord.
